  AWARE

Aware is a voluntary organisation formed in 1985 by a group of interested patients, relatives and mental health professionals, whose aims are to assist that section of the population whose lives are directly affected by depression.

400,000 people in Ireland currently suffer from depression but many hide their depression and never get help. Sadly, over 500 people take their own life each year. Aware, since its foundation in 1985 has been working energetically to bring support to sufferers of depression, and their families and to dispel the myths and misunderstandings of this devastating illness.

Carrick on Shannon Rowing Club

Carrick on Shannon Rowing Club was founded in 1836 and has a long and rich history of rowing in the town of Carrick and on the river Shannon.  Having produced such acclaimed rowers as the Olympic sculler Frances Cryan and British Isles home nations champion Mary Reynolds the club has both a local and international sporting tradition.

Presently the Rowing Club has over 100 members who row both recreationally and competitively at National and International level.  Members range from Junior rowers right up to veteran.  The Carrick Sprints - which are held the August bank holiday weekend every year - are the highlight of the clubs calendar and attract racing crews from all around the country.  Carrick on Shannon Rowing Club remains dedicated to supplying a friendly, open and well organized rowing and recreational facility to the people of Carrick while promoting the sport of rowing in the local area.
